The great Christmas illuminations on the streets of Warsaw

The Great Christmas illumination starts on the 3rd of December at dusk! Read the information about the Christmas attractions the City of Warsaw has prepared for you. Moreover, a Christmas Market in the Old Town has just opened by the Wall at the Castle Square

On Saturday, 3rd December, Warsaw will be blazing with Christmas lights. The whole of Trakt Królewski Street, along with the surrounding streets, will sparkle with the colours of Christmas at dusk. The event will end at 7.30 pm.

At the beginning of the walking route, near the monument of Copernicus, we will surely get into the merry mood by listening to the Sienna Gospel choir and the Wrzesińska Orkiestra Dęta concert band’s renditions of Christmas hit songs. Near the Bristol hotel, the actors of the Theatre Akt, in the guise of pixies with the help of their Varsovian assistants, will try to clean, fix and arrange pictures of the Warsaw Winter Album located on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. A further walk in the Old Town direction will guarantee an amazing treat for the kids – Hoover Square will be transformed into the house of Father Christmas and his helpers.

Other Christmas attractions will be held in a tent set up on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street near St Anna’s Church, giving everyone a chance to try their hand at decorating gingerbread and send specially prepared Christmas cards depicting snow-clad Warsaw. The whole walking route will be filled with the dancing Father Christmases of Warszawski Funk group, who will give dancing lessons and gifts to the Warsaw denizens. The Christmas mood will be maintained by the performance of the Wrzesińska Orkiestra Dęta and a dancing troupe. An exhibit of ice sculptures and Christmas illuminations of the fountains has been prepared by the Multimedia Fountain Park in Warsaw’s Podzamcze. We invite you to the Grand Christmas Illuminations of Warsaw streets!
Warsaw will sparkle with Christmas lights
The streets will be illuminated with nearly twice as many lights compared to previous seasons; the whole lighting installation is over 20 km long. The lights will be set up mainly along the Trakt Królewski – starting with Zamkowy Square, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, Nowy Świat Street, Trzech Krzyży Square, and Aleje Ujazdowskie Street, up to Belweder Palace. The lights will be set up along Aleje Jerozolimskie Street (from Central Station to the Waszyngton Roundabout and the Poniatowski Bridge), aleja Solidarności Street (from Bankowy Square to Wileński Square along with the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge) Bankowy Square, Marszałkowska Street (from Królewska Street to Konstytucji Square), Świętokrzyska Street, Mokotowska Street and Targowa Street. Christmas decorations will also be on show on Francuska Street, Wileński Square, Ząbkowska Street, and Powstańców Warszawy Square. As always, there will be a 27-metre Christmas tree on Zamkowy Square, adorned with brand new ornaments, and Christmas lights will be put up on nearly every corner of the Old Town.

Warsaw, a pastry cook, a card, and a gingerbread cookie
Warsaw invites children with parents to the Christmas tent to decorate gingerbread and send Christmas cards. There will be an opportunity to decorate gingerbread at the Warsaw tent set up near St Anna’s Church on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, the only limitation being the creativity of the decorators. You can take your cookies home for your nearest and dearest or use them as ornaments for your Christmas tree.
It will be also possible to send Christmas cards from the tent. Four distinctive cards, depicting Christmas-time Warsaw, will be at the disposal of the tent visitors. There will also be an opportunity to create unique cards. Specially prepared stamps will be also available, so you will be able to send cards directly. All cards and stamps will be free of charge.

9th SHOM International Charity Bazaar

In 2008, the Spouses of Heads of Mission (SHOM) organized the first Annual International Charity Bazaar, raising funds for Polish-based charities. Since that beginning, SHOM not only serves as a means of connecting embassies together, but also helping the less fortunate in Poland. The money raised in SHOM Charity Bazaar, thanks to the Patronage of the First Lady of Poland Mrs. Agata Kornhauser-Duda and generous cooperation and donations from Embassies and Sponsors, benefits the elderly, children, women and families in difficult circumstances.

The International Charity Bazaar is SHOM's most significant annual fundraising event.

Last year the International Charity Bazaar was a great successful event with a participation of 60 embassies and about 4000 patrons involved to raise money for charity. Thanks to their generosity we raised more than 460,000 PLN for the benefit of 18 charitable causes.

The 9th International Charity Bazaar will be held on Sunday, 27th November 2016, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Marriott Hotel, Warsaw.

Opening Ceremony at 11:00 am
The Bazaar will be opened by its Patron – The First Lady of Poland
Mrs. Agata Kornhauser — Duda

The Color Run Warsaw

The Color Run, the world’s first COLOR 5k™ event, was founded in March 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the“Happiest 5k on the Planet”.

How The Event Works

Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed event in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:

1. Wear white at the starting line!
2. Finish plastered in color!

After Color Runners complete the race, the fun continues with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet!

Getting to Warsaw

Here are some tips on how to travel to Warsaw.

The Winter Evening of Light in the Royal Łazienki

On 27 February, the Royal Łazienki will be having extraordinary lighting. The evening walk with lanterns around the historic gardens will be concluded by an atmospheric concert in front of the Palace on the Isle. The guests will be accompanied by figures dressed in colourful historical costumes.

The Winter Evening of Light, which will take place for the fourth time, is the only opportunity of the year to take a stroll with lanterns in the Łazienki gardens and see how the magically illuminated buildings of the summer residence of Stanisław August and the trees surrounding them emerge from the darkness.

The walk will start at 7:00 p.m. (participation is free). It will be possible to choose one of three routes leading to the terrace of the Palace on the Isle, where the final concert will take place.

The Red Lantern Route - will start by the entrance to the Royal Łazienki near Gagarina Street. It will continue through the Chinese Alley, along the Modernist Garden with a view of the Aurora sculpture. It will then cut through the Modernist Garden, leading - across a footbridge - to the eastern shore of the Upper South Pond with an island. It will lead further, near the hill with the rock garden, to the Amphitheatre, and then, along the shore of the pond next to the Bosquets - the former Italian Garden - up to the terrace of the Palace on the Isle.

The Blue Lantern Route - will start at the entrance near to the Monument to Chopin (on Ujazdowskie Avenue). It will head towards the 19th century Romantic Garden. It will pass the Temple of Sybil, cut across the bank in front of the Belvedere building, and head towards the Egyptian Temple and the Bust of Mochnacki. It will traverse a part of the Modernist Garden with the sundial, a view of the New Orangery, and the Aurora sculpture. It will continue along the Upper South Pond and to the terrace of the Palace on the Isle.

The Green Lantern Route - will start on the Agrykoli Street near the entrance to the "Coat of Arms" Alley. It will then lead to the Arcade Bridge with the Monument to King Jan III Sobieski and offer a view of the northern façade of the Palace on the Isle, and then it will continue to the Agrykola street – to the entrance near the Chinese Alley. It will run through the Belvedere Avenue, near the Chinese Garden, and up to the crossing between the Water Tower, the Old Orangery and the White Pavilion. It will continue on the Royal Promenade to the Chinese Alley, and from it - near the New Guardhouse - to a road leading to the terrace of the Palace on the Isle.

On each of the routes, where visitors will be led by guides, it will be possible to admire specially prepared illuminations of monuments and gardens. Additionally, music will sound near the illuminated buildings, and the strolling visitors will be accompanied by figures dressed in historical costumes.

On the Blue Route the following monuments will be illuminated: the Temple of Sybil, the Egyptian Temple and the island on the Upper South Pond, on the Red Route: the Aurora sculpture, the rock garden and the island on the Upper South Pond, and on the Green Route: the Water Tower and the Chinese Garden.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive to the Winter Evening of Light earlier in order to, among other things, purchase lanterns (stands will be located near the entrances to the respective routes).

On the same day, the evening walk with lanterns event will also take place in residencies which, together will the Royal Łazienki, participate in the "Gardens of Light" project. Those are: the Muskau Park of Prince Pückler in Bad Muskau (Germany), the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum in Saint Petersburg (Russia), the Prince Kung’s Mansion in Beijing (China), the Château de Lunéville (France), and the Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød (Denmark).
